A Historical Place
The 100 year old resurrected villa
High on the top of a hill, in picturesque Retterschen, next to Kressbronn, our over a 100 year-old-villa is situated distinctively and is visible for miles. Surrounded by wonderful nature, it has been called “Sonnenhof” again since July 2010. There are not many other places at Lake Constance comparable to this with an unbelievable view, over the wide twinkling lake up to the snow-covered Alps.
Robert Manhardt, the building owner of the complex, always loved old, rustic and historical fabrics and resurrected the “spirit” of this old property.
The refreshing mixture of modern straightness, functionality and old historical charm has been part of his concept. In this way, the antique and historical appearance was kept intentionally in its unique character.
Already in 1908, the then-councillor of the district court, Mr. Dübbers from Düsseldorf, built the villa “Sonnenhof” next to Retterschen, high above Lake Constance, for his private use. After having been run as “spa hotel of Lake Constance” in the twenties (with 35 beds), the Allianz assurance used the complex as a recreation home for her employees for nearly 70 years. At the end of the year 2000, the company quit the holiday business. In 2006, Robert Manhardt finally was found as a dedicated and conviced investor.
In 2011, the spacious and well-arranged complex consists of the „boarding house at the Sonnenhof”, the guest house of the hotel, as well as of several buildings for the supply of services and for health and care. Additionally to the impressive hotel with its restaurant (which is open to the public), gym and spa with indoor pool, there are also owner-occupied flats and holiday flats.
Therewith, a part of the history of Lake Constance has been aroused again. Convince yourself and visit the hotel Sonnenhof at Lake Constance! We are happy to welcome you!
